Why it matters

Three settings, one requirement: don’t disturb

From the business district to the university campus, each sector dictates how the work gets done.

The business district

Rue Sherbrooke, Boulevard René-Lévesque and Avenue McGill College: office towers occupied Monday to Friday. Reserved service elevators, restricted roof access, noise to limit: work is planned in phases, often evenings or weekends.

Sainte-Catherine and restaurants

The city’s densest commercial corridor, with restaurants, cafés, hotels and kitchens open late. Hoods, duct and make-up air have to route through constrained construction without disturbing neighbouring occupants.

Campus and institutional buildings

McGill and Concordia sit alongside offices and mixed-use buildings. Laboratories, technical rooms and densely occupied spaces need dedicated ventilation, often installed during low-occupancy periods.

The system

What we install downtown

From the rooftop unit serving an office tower to the hood of a restaurant on Sainte-Catherine.

✓ Rooftop units (RTUs) for office towers and commercial buildings

✓ Ventilation and make-up air (MAU) for restaurants, hotels and kitchens

✓ Commercial ductwork and NFPA 96-compliant kitchen exhaust

✓ Zoned systems and CRAC for laboratories and server rooms

✓ Curb adapters to replace a unit on an existing roof

Our process

From assessment to commissioning

Coordinated with your operations, permits and inspections included

01

Assessment

Site visit, survey of existing equipment, roof access, service elevators and building constraints. We confirm what’s there before proposing anything.

02

Design and quote

Sizing, duct routing and equipment selection, then a detailed quote: scope of work, equipment, schedule and access constraints.

03

Installation

Work carried out outside occupancy hours when needed, in phases to keep the building running. Crane coordination, street permits and placement of equipment at height.

04

Permits and inspections

We handle permit applications and schedule the required inspections as part of the project, under the Quebec Construction Code.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What downtown businesses ask us

How do you install a rooftop unit on an occupied tower without disturbing tenants?

We plan the lift and access with building management, reserve the service elevators and concentrate noisy work in the evening, on weekends or in phases. Tenants are informed of any expected impact.

How do you handle roof access and height logistics?

With crane coordination and, where needed, a street-occupancy permit. Equipment is hoisted to the roof on a lift plan prepared for the building, then installation continues on the roof.

Do you install kitchen exhaust for downtown restaurants?

Yes. Hoods, duct and make-up air for commercial kitchens, designed per NFPA 96 and integrated with the existing construction, including on Sainte-Catherine and in older buildings.

Do you work in heritage and older buildings?

Yes. These buildings call for adapted solutions: routing duct through the existing structure and placing equipment in a way that respects visibility constraints and applicable conservation requirements.

Do you handle permits and inspections downtown?

Yes, as part of the project: building permits and, for crane operations, street-occupancy permits. We schedule the required inspections under the Quebec construction codes.

What’s the typical lead time for a rooftop unit replacement?

A simple replacement with good roof access is often completed in one to two days once the equipment is delivered. Supply is typically two to four weeks, with extra coordination time when a crane is needed.
