Why it matters
Three commercial realities in one neighbourhood
The Monkland village, the Sherbrooke Ouest–Loyola axis and the Décarie corridor have neither the same building stock nor the same ventilation needs.
The Monkland village
On Avenue Monkland, between Décarie and Grand, restaurants and cafés follow one another over a very short distance. A business’s exhaust discharge often lands metres from a neighbour’s air intakes, windows and balconies — and almost every unit has apartments above.
Sherbrooke Ouest and Loyola
The Sherbrooke Ouest axis concentrates clinics, professional offices and services, with the Loyola campus sector bringing occupancy that varies by day and semester. Fresh-air supply per unit and stable zoning from one office to the next matter more than cooling capacity alone.
Décarie and Cavendish–Somerled
Along the Décarie corridor and the Décarie expressway, businesses have a larger footprint and multi-unit installations. In the Cavendish and Somerled sectors, mixed buildings share the same roof and structure between ground-floor commercial and apartments.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What NDG businesses ask us
Can you install restaurant ventilation on Avenue Monkland?
Yes, it’s a significant part of our work in NDG. We design the complete system — hood, grease duct, roof exhaust fan and make-up air unit — accounting for the proximity of neighbours and the older stock.
How do you deal with apartments above the businesses?
The exhaust discharge is positioned and raised to keep odours away from windows and balconies, and the make-up air flow balances the exhaust. Without that balance, the unit goes under negative pressure and draws air from the stairwell or the apartment above — the source of most odour complaints in this type of building.
Do you replace rooftop units on older NDG buildings?
Yes, regularly. Much of the neighbourhood’s commercial stock predates the spread of rooftop units. A curb adapter lets us fit a differently sized unit, provided access, structural capacity and available space are checked before specification.
Do you work with clinics and offices on Sherbrooke Ouest?
Yes, for design and installation. A treatment room needs fresh-air supply and zoning distinct from a standard office, and controlling air transfer between rooms is part of the design.
Can you work without closing the business?
In most cases, yes, by phasing the work and scheduling noisy steps outside opening hours. Crane work, however, requires a street obstruction planned in advance.
Do you offer maintenance or repair?
No. We focus exclusively on design and installation, with no imposed maintenance contract. We hand over complete documentation for the maintenance contractor of your choice.
